Because of its two separate monsoon systems, Sri Lanka is a year-round destination. When the southwest is rainy, the east coast is sunny, and vice versa.

The best time to visit the west and south coasts, as well as the Hill Country, is from December to March. For the east coast and the cultural triangle, the optimal window is from April to September.

Traveling during the 'shoulder seasons' in April and October can offer the best of both worlds—lower prices, fewer crowds, and generally pleasant weather across the island.
